What would you do if you won the lottery?

As someone with self-diagnosed anxiety, you would think I would have thought about this question more. I mean, I think about what ifs all the time. Most of my what ifs are negative though; You know, those deep intrusive thoughts we all have. If I was asked this question when I was younger (which I’m sure I was) I probably said I’d save all the animals. Probably donate to charity and then buy whatever I wanted. Now though, my answer’s a lot different.

If I won the lottery right now, in this very moment, I would buy nothing. You read correctly. Not a dime of the money would be spent on purchases. What I would do is split 50% of it amongst all of my children’s savings, 20% amongst the people that raised me and mentored me, and 30% to stay in my bank account. I wouldn’t go do anything crazy. I wouldn’t splurge on friends and family. I would continue life as is.

You see, the problem with having a lot of money, is that you lose sight of what you already have. The non-materialistic things that matter get pushed as a back thought. People that haven’t spoken to you in years want to suddenly come around. The ‘friends’ that haven’t had time suddenly find some. You risk losing everything by not being blessed for what you already have.
